Specification document generation is a new feature that has been embedded within the empower Quote platform that enables users to quickly generate complete CSI (Construction Specification Institute) specification documents. This solution takes inputs from the product configurator in order to determine which information to include in the output document (process shown below).
How it works
1. Configure Product
The specification module leverages the standard empower product configurators. Simply use the configurator to select key product attributes. Your selections will be used as logic to generate the output document.
2. Generate Document
Once you have configured the product, navigate to the Documents page and select Add New Document and select the appropriate specification template. After selecting the template, users will have the option to customize (opens the document within the tool) or directly download the output.
Tip: the document templates use the standard naming convention of '<product> Specification'.
3. Customize & Download Specification
If you select the Generate option after choosing the template, you will have the opportunity to further customize the output before downloading. Users can leverage the full capabilities of empower's document platform.
Customization toolbar: use these features to update and add additional information into the specification.
Preview document: toggle this switch to see a live preview of the document output complete with integrated variables.
Download: after customization and review, the full specification document can be downloaded in either PDF or Microsoft Word format.
Tip: check out the empowerU Document Management section for additional lessons on how to fully customize your documents online.

Who can use the Specification templates?
Who can use the Specification templates?
Currently all internal empower Quote users have access to the specification template. It is listed at the bottom of the template list when generating a new document.
Why are there separate documents per product?
Why are there separate documents per product?
Each product specification is based on an individual master document template. This generates a single document per product. At this point there is not a systematic way to merge the individual documents into a single specification.

Users can use the feedback button within empower or email [email protected] to pass along any updates or suggestions.
Why doesn't it correctly generate a document for existing configured line items?
Why doesn't it correctly generate a document for existing configured line items?
Existing configured items will first need to be re-engineered before a specification document can be generated. This ensures the proper data attributes get sent for document generation.
